With the start of the Winter Equestrian Festival also came the return to competition for Balou's Day Date and Cat Ballou. After a couple months of rest in November and December, both horses proved to be in excellent form. Both Cat Ballou and Balou's Day Date had strong rounds in the $35,000 WEF Challenge Cup, and Balou's Day Date finished in 3rd in the $75,000 Rosenbaum Mollengarden PLLC Grand Prix.
"Didi (Balou's Day Date) was great this week," said Paul Butterworth, Louisburg Farm's Manager. "Other than a couple of smaller classes in December, she hasn’t shown since early October and after a beautiful round in the WEF Challenge Cup on Thursday, with a really unlucky 4 faults, she finished 3rd in the Grand Prix on Sunday; it was a wonderful start to the circuit.
"Cat, who also hasn’t shown since October, used the WEF on Thursday as a sort of warm up for what we have planned for him. He also was great with 4 faults and was not at all rusty from his three-month vacation."
"I was thrilled with both horses this week," added rider Molly Ashe. "We stopped showing after Split Rock in October so they could have a break. It's always nice when they come off a vacation in such good form!"
Ashe will compete the Oldenburg mare (Balou Du Rouet x Linda-Dolores) and the Holsteiner gelding (Cassini II x Lacantus) at Week 2 at WEF. For daily updates and photos, be sure to follow Louisburg Farm's Facebook page here.
